Kindlemodding.org is a website to give back control of your Kindle. It is a clean and organized site with instructions for several models including the first generation.
Prepare yourself a cup of coffee or tea and start reading. Initially it feels overwhelming and honestly I haven't had time to mod my Kindle with these steps. If you need assistance, there are many YouTube videos about the subject.
I'm looking forward to finding time to go through this but for now I leave my Kindle in airplane mode and sync with Calibre.
